Why no dvd import in mediatomb 12.1

Postby MisterJingo on Fri Oct 12, 2012 7:26 am

Hi there.

I am using Linux Mint 11 Katya (fully updated). I was wondering if anyone can tell me why the Mediatomb packages do not include the DVD import script?

My understanding is it should be somewhere like /usr/share/mediatomb/js/import-dvd.js but its not. Dpkg confirms its not part of my mediatomb-common package:

Code: Select all
$ dpkg -L mediatomb mediatomb-common | grep -i dvd
$

I have Mediatomb 0.12.1 installed...

Code: Select all
$ dpkg -s mediatomb-common | head
Package: mediatomb-common
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: net
Installed-Size: 2428
Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers <ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com>
Architecture: amd64
Source: mediatomb
Version: 0.12.1-0ubuntu1

The mediatomb site says that dvd image support was introduced in 0.12.0. It also says that "The DVD image is parsed with the help of libdvdread" but it does not seem that mediatomb was compiled with that:

Code: Select all
$ ldd `which mediatomb` | grep -i dvd
$

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I've just checked Mint 13 (Maya) and DVD image support is not included with Mediatomb there either. Does anyone happen to know why, and more importantly what I need to do to get DVD image support working?

I presume I would need to recompile mediatomb with libdvdread as per the info on the Mediatomb site. But I'm wondering if there is a good reason that this wasn't done by the original Debian/Ubuntu/Mint packagers.

As before, any advice would be gratefully accepted.

I see now that DVD image support is not included with Mediatomb for Mint because it is not included with the Mediatomb packages for the upstream (Ubuntu).

Oneiric Mediatomb Filelist - http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/amd64/mediatomb-common/filelist
Precise Mediatomb Filelist - http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/amd64/mediatomb-common/filelist

Also Mediatomb does not appear in the list of packages for Debian Lenny - http://packages.debian.org/lenny/allpackages
But Mediatomb for Debian Squeeze does have DVD image support - http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/amd64/mediatomb-common/filelist

That explains why DVD image support is not included in Mint 11. Now I just need to figure out how to get DVD image support working for mediatomb on my Mint 11 system.
