Facebook video playback

Postby dayspring1978 on Fri Nov 02, 2012 11:35 am

I just completed a fresh install of Mint 13 Cinnamon 64-bit and I can get any video to play, even You Tube videos linked on Facebook, but I can not get any other videos on Facebook to play. I have both Chrome and Firefox installed and neither will play Facebook videos. I have updated Flash, codecs, everything I can think of. I tried to disable older plugins of Flash and still nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Did you install the no-codecs version of mint? If yes have you installed the codecs via the link on the splash screen? Otherwise have you un-installed anything or assuming you are running firefox, running any blocker addons, tried with a different profile, looked at about:plugins to see what is active?

I did not install the no-codecs version. I ran the command sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras in the terminal to see if that would resolve anything, which I believe wasn't necessary. Am I right? This is what my about:plugins looks like for Firefox:

File: libflashplayer.so
Version:
Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202

This is my chrome:plugins page:

Flash (3 files) - Version: 11.4.31.110
Shockwave Flash 11.4 r31
Name: Shockwave Flash

I tried to disable versions 11.2 r202 and 11.0 r1 but that didn't work either. I also ran the command sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer and again nothing. It's really odd that I can't get either browser, Firefox or Chrome, to play Facebook videos! All help from everyone is again greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: Videos are playing in Firefox after right-clicking on video, choosing 'Settings', then remove checkmark from box 'Enable hardware acceleration'. However, I tried this with Chrome and it did not work. Still trying a few things! Thanks again!
