Couple of mplayer firefox plugin questions... solved

Postby Beetlejuice on Wed Apr 23, 2008 2:09 pm

Fresh updated install of Mint Daryna...two questions...

1. When trying to stream videos in FF, mplayer wants to download the entire file instead of starting to stream after a little bit. I have to hit play to get the video to start playing, it won't stream automatically. Is this by design or is there some setting I need to change?

2. Mplayer plugin in FF seems to be able to play almost everything. The only problems I run into are certain Quicktime files. It shows that Quicktime 7 is needed. An example would be if you go http://www.apple.com/iphone/. Right on the main page I get the Quicktime message. Are there additional codecs I need to install or is everyone getting this as well?

BTW, I am a relative Linux newbie and I am blown away with how polished Mint is. I have been toying around with a bunch of distro's and I think I have found my home. Kudo's to the Mint team. Great job guys!

Configuration of mplayer is needed and is described in a sticky, but I'll save you the trouble to find it as it's really simple
Video output X11 and audio output alsa (unless you actually use oss)
"Some quicktime files" seems to be a problem - sorry I have no answer

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

http://www.apple.com/trailers/independe ... s/trailer/

when I try to open this in FF 2.0.0.14 it says: "(no video)"
lookin for embedded items shows me this: http://movies.apple.com/movies/independ ... -h.ref.mov
and after a copy into the addressbar it works, but sized to complete screenresolution (many artifacts). What's wrong here (with my config)?

Yeah both played fine.

Could you check mplayer/preferences/video see thats it's using X11 rather than the others.
