Image but no sound when connecting to television by HDMI

Hello,
I've installed a few days ago Linux Mint 14 along Windows 7 on a HP laptop.
When I try to connect my computer to my television via HDMI, I can see the image without any problem, but the sound does not come from the TV, it comes from my laptop speakers, and if I go to sound settings and change the sound exit to HDMI, it becomes mute.
Does anyone know why? Does anyone has a solution?

I assume it works OK in Win7 but not Linux? A simple possibility to start with: have you had a look at the volume settings for HDMI, it could be as simple as it's muted or turned right down.
