Sound buginess with X-Fi Titanium

The sound is very buggy using an X-Fi Titanium with Cinnamon 14. I'm guessing the problem is something to do with the GUI though. Everything works perfectly if I run alsamixer and control the sound throug there. But as soon as I start using the gui to adjust the volume and such, the center speaker gets muted, and the volume is highly inaccurate (100% volume is more like 20% volume with the speaker volume set where it is at, but 100% volume in alsamixer plays really loud as it should.

Any ideas on how I can fix this? Really annoying when trying to watch movies and such that I have to keep opening and using alsamixer instead of the regular gui to adjust the volume and all.
