Mute comes on when I plug in my Head Phones on Linux Mint 14

I am using Linux Mint 14 and then I got a new Up-Date on January 16, 2013. Now when I plug in my head phones my mute comes on and it won't go off until I unplug them. The head phones work when my computer is logging on, but as soon as Linux Mint 14 boots up the Mute comes on. I do have sound without my head phones, but some places that I use my Laptop I really need my head phones. I hope someone can help me.
