DAUM Potplayer and Auzentech X-Fi Forte, please Help :)

I am fresh linux user and there is a lot of things a like about it. Im using Linux Mint 14.1 Cinnamon 64-bit, installed on main drive on particular partition i dualboot mode with windows 7 64-bit.
There are also some very frustration stuff about linux...

*I can`t make my sound card (which I very like and I paid for it like 200 USD) the Auzentech Auzen X-Fi Forte work properly and I couldn`t find any proper solution unless I can hear only rear speakers. That hurts...

*The second thing is kind of the Wine issue. I really prefer the DAUM Potplayer for watching movies for the greater experience. I am audiophille and moviephille :)
I have installed Potplayer 64-bit via Wine app and it came with some kind of error when I tried to start it in Mint via wine. I could not find anything about it on internet yet.

I am hopping that somebody can help me.
Any suggestions, PLEASE?

It says "seriuos error". Come on, how serious can it be if that program runs perfectly in windows?

I already checked application database link provided and there is nothing about this player. Does it means that there are limitations on which apps I can run on linux with Wine? I thought it should support win apps generally.

no, that's your mistake :D wine does its best creating compatibility with windows app so that they can run in linux; most of the time they don't and when they do the user experience is lees than ideal.

the wine database has user input about the way some app that were tested with a specific wine version work. if its not listed there is because nobody (before you) tried to run this app in wine (or didn't bother to write a review in the database)

what is the killer feature of this app that you can't use a native one?

Thanks for reply, I really appreciate it.
Actually, I was looking for movie player that have abulity to put subtitles below the image in black area. I don`t like to have subtitles on image cuz I like it to be clean. Maybe I ask for too much, maybe Im not normal but thats who I am, I like it that way and I was looking for that kind of player. So far I have tried several linux based players and did not found any yet. Maybe some hint? :)

Well PotPlayer is the best media player out there. It's updated atleast once in a fortnight. No wonder it is called KMPlayer Redux and it was created by the same author after he sold KMPlayer.

I haven't found a linux compatible player that can match DAUM potplayer, maybe I am just to used to it. Iv been using it since it was still kmplayer.. The updated (english) windows version are listed here:
http://www.dvbsupport.net/download/index.php?act=category&id=55

I hope wine will support this in the future..

Would be even better if Daum Communications Corp. would produce a Linux version of PotPlayer.
I went to their web site to make the request, but I can't read Chinese, and couldn't find an English version of their site. :?

I'm ironing out my method, but for now, take a look at the rough 2 part guide I posted at http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PotPlayer

TIP: It's PotPlayer1.5.40688.EXE, followed by PotPlayer1.5.42994Upd.EXE (there's a mistake in the post, but I can't edit it). Later versions do not work, at least with my instructions. Also make sure that you have Potplayer handle all the filters to make sure it's working, and in pulseaudio you want to change:

Code: Select all

load-module module-udev-detect
(+ use_ucm=0 or whatever else it says on that line)
to

Code: Select all

load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0
in /etc/pulse/default.pa

Plus, that override list is a complete replacement, not an addendum to the overrides. So you need to delete the old overrides because some conflict (not sure which ones).

You can have it do a nice fullscreen interface if you set wine configuration to 1920x1080, maximize, and then reset that option off again.

Hi everyone,

I'm rather new to Linux Mint (rather Linux in general).
I had no problem installing the software I needed so far, also running Trillian in Wine wasn't hard.
After I've searched for a few days I gave up trying to find a PotPlayer alternative for Linux.

I've tried to find your tutorial for installing Daum PotPlayer on Linux that you spoke of, but couldn't find it anywhere on the linked site:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PotPlayer

am I overlooking something?

Please help!!!

I was a staunch and loyal follower until the advent of x265 support which sucks big time. For no apparent reason the picture simply freezes a small segment of audio goes into infinite loop. After some meticulous search I cam across PotPlayer and have been extremely satisfied in every aspect. Just wish they would come out with a Linux version which honestly I doubt. What with having to redo the entire application for each variety and version of Linux distribution !. I guess any one would get frustrated by the process !

For the lazy and a fast install...
Latest linux version. Runs in Crossover. Make sure to install all optional dependencies.
Difficult to install, but if you have the right DLL overrides and Bottle it can work with tweaking.
Highly tweaked version here, no install hassles necessary:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bypa2q ... ttNms/view
100% Compatible, at least as far as playing audio files goes

I checked it too and it is indeed there, and it's rated Garbage. Anything rated less than Gold on that database is going to be crap.

Wine is Garbage too. In fact MOST Windows programs will not run at all, and the ones that do usually run badly.

Make sure to install all the optional dependencies. Currently this command will get them all:
