[SOLVED] Microphone no longer working

Hey guys my sound stopped working. Think it occurred after plugging in a Microsoft webcam.
I've messed about in alsamixer and got the sound to work again but not the mic - I can get the mic to 'output' into my speakers but I can't get skype to pick it up.
Ideas?

After 2 months... I have fixed it!

In terminal:
apt-get install pavucontrol
then run
pavucontrol

Then in make sure in the recording and input devices tab that nothing is muted.
