My default Movie player was always VLC as i set it in "prefered applications" when i imstalled cinnamon, now for some reason the setting changed to totem movie player. I have gone back into prefered applications and set it back to VLC. closed the box, but the movies still open with totem movie player, i have tried rebooting a dozen times, no effect. I have even tried setting it to toem player, then rebooting, then set it back to vlc and rebooted again. Yet movies still ALWAYS open with totem movie player .... Until yesterday they used to open with VLC...
Is there a way to fix this, any terminal command i can run to force VLC as the default player for movie files ?

How about purging totem? I think its easier..
Or else, you can try on that file type properties, on the open with tab, something like that...
