Disable microphone output

hi,
i'm trying to figure out how to stop the sound going into my microphone from being played on my speakers.
Opposed to what a karaoke would be, i don't want to hear my own voice when speaking into my mic.

In windows i can "mute" it like that, but still my voice would be recorded if i use a recording tool, or if i was voice chatting with someone over the internet.

any ideas?
