No Sound on HP dv2500

Hi everyone!

Disclaimer: total linux newbie, here.

I just installed LinuxMint 14 on my old HP dv2500 and had some issues with the wireless (solved) and the sound (not solved). I tried a few of the tricks I saw here and some other linux forums, but I haven't quite seen the same exact issue come up:

There's no sound playback except a clicking/popping sound. So, just to illustrate, if I play a youtube video I get absolutely no sound, but if I get a gchat notification I get this awful popping sound from my speakers. And, if just to annoy me, I muted it but it's decided to turn itself back on when I get a notification. So sweet.

Anyway, when I put this in the terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo lspci | grep -i audio
I get:
00:07.0 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation MCP67 High Definition Audio (rev a1)
And this might be useful, too:

Code: Select all

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec*
Result:
Codec: Conexant CX20549 (Venice)
Address: 0
AFG Function Id: 0x1 (unsol 0)
MFG Function Id: 0x2 (unsol 1)
Vendor Id: 0x14f15045
Subsystem Id: 0x103c30d6
Revision Id: 0x100100
Modem Function Group: 0x2
Default PCM:
N/A
Default Amp-In caps: N/A
Default Amp-Out caps: N/A
GPIO: io=255, o=255, i=255, unsolicited=1, wake=1

Is volume set correctly in alsamixer? Check the settings by typing the below in terminal.

Code: Select all

alsamixer
http://community.linuxmint.com/idea/view/3844 - I have posted an idea on having a Troubleshooting wizard in Mint for audio related issues. Request you have a look at it and provide your views and if it makes sense cast your vote on it. Thanks :)Am rallying the forums to get consensus on the idea.
