Hi everyone ! Been an Ubuntu user for 2+ years, and had my computer explode on me a couple of days ago during an electrical storm (though, I'm not fully sure if that's the cause since I live in an apartment), and as luck would have it, a friend of mine just got a new Macbook, so decided to give me her Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop, which is what I'm typing this from atm.
I decided that I'd go through the distro's that I downloaded and pick one which wasn't Ubuntu this time, and here I am, running 4.0 MInt. My main question for this topic is:
Since the laptop is older (about 6 years old ?) which media player has the best track record w/older hardware in terms of stability and speed ? Also, I'll be running all my music from an external HD for the time being, until I figure out what I want to do with this laptop. So I need a player which isn't resource hungry and doesn't take a year and a day to refresh its database/library, that's first and foremost on my list of priorities.
Also, I test a lot of different DAP's, so I would like it to be somewhat MTP compliant if possible. If not, no biggie. I was using Rhythmbox w/Feisty previously, and it was fine except that in the past couple of months, it would just crash for no reason I could find. I have used Amarok in the past, but had found it to be sluggish and I can't deal w/that on this mediocre old laptop.
So, thoughts and suggestions are very welcome. (gapless playback is a big plus btw...and I don't mean simple crossfade).
