Postby panini0 on Sat Jun 14, 2008 5:47 am

i have elyssa default installation but replaced firefox 3 with firefox 2 ( 3 used to crash)
but the default mplayer mozilla plugin didnt play online videos, so i removed all mplayer components and installed vlc mediaplayer and vlc firefox plugin.
but firefox no longer seems to recogine vlc plugin :-( as i cant see vlc plugin in "about:plugins"
how do i get it to work?

I think this and similar problems may be caused by FF2 using the same profile as FF3
Give it a profile of it's own.....

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Close out all Firefox windows and run this in terminal.
Code: Select all
firefox-2 -ProfileManager

This will start Firefox 2 with the Profile Manager so you can give it it's own profile.

thanx for the response :-)
i deleted the default profile and created a new one for firefox 2 .
but still the same problem :-(
still "about:plugins" in firefox shows only flash and adobe reader plugin! no vlc plugin visible there!! so it cant play any streaming videos
also the " /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/" has "libvlcplugin.so" file!! how to make firefox recognise the plugin?
