The output device volume control in the sound settigns and PulseAudio Volume Control have no effect on my laptop's speakers unless they are pushed to 0, in which case the sound is muted. Same with the "master" control in alsamixer (I'm not sure if all these are actually the same control). However, the PCM control in alsamixer, and the application specific volume controls in either sound settings or pavucontrol work.
This is on a fresh install of Linux Mint 15 (the 64-bit cinnamon edition). The sound card is "Intel 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller" which inxi says is using the snd_hda_intel driver. However, I get no sound at all without selecting oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms in Device Drivers as in the release notes.
How can I fix this? As a workaround, is it possible to configure the volume applet and the volume keys above the keyboard to use the PCM control?
