Sound not working as user, only as root.

Postby physlord on Mon Dec 02, 2013 9:17 pm

Hi Mint fellas. I have a problem. I installed Linux Mint 16 amd64 and my sound card isn't working when I log in as user. However, if I use "startx" as root or if I run any program using "sudo" the sound works perfectly. I have already tried:

Code: Select all
sudo alsa force-reload

  • Removed and reinstalled pulseaudio and alsa.
  • Also added my user to the audio and, just in case, pulse-access groups; rebooted but still no audio.
  • I added the line "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" to alsa-base.conf.
  • Also checked that in "/etc/default/speech-dispatcher" is "RUN=no".
  • Unmuted everything with alsamixer

Since sound works with root I think it's a permissions problem but I can't figure out what to do. If it helps there is the "inxi -A"

Code: Select all
Audio:     Card: Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller driver: snd_hda_intel
Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ver: k3.11.0-12-generic

aplay -l

Code: Select all
tarjeta 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], dispositivo 0: ALC665 Analog [ALC665 Analog]
  Subdispositivos: 1/1
  Subdispositivo #0: subdevice #0
tarjeta 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], dispositivo 1: ALC665 Digital [ALC665 Digital]
