MPlayer dead?

Postby Mi4 on Wed Aug 20, 2008 7:22 pm

I know MPlayer worked fine before. I've re-installed Mint a few times, though.

Well, here's the problem:
When I try to play a file I get an error message saying "Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device." If I click "OK" it will go on to playing the audio while it doesn't even show a video window. It seems to happen regardless of what file format I'm trying to play. I really can't make out what it's supposed to mean. (I have a feeling it might be something stupidly simple, though... <.<)
Help please?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Open MPlayer, right click over it to see its menu, go to preferences, Video tab and on the Available drivers, choose:
x11 X11 ( XImage/Shm )

CLick Ok and finally close MPlayer. Next time you open it, it will show image.

More: if you want it scaling videos to fullscreen (not showing that black or white border), you need to open with mousepad or your text editor the "invisible" file config at /home/"user"/.mplayer/config and write: zoom="yes". Your file will look like this:
# Write your default config options here!
zoom="yes"

Worked exactly like you said! ^^ Thanks a bunch!

Is there any way to set the default subtitle track the same way well? (in the config file I mean) If so, what's the... Uh... Variable? Or better yet, can I find a list somewhere?
