Poor sound quality in Totem solved

Postby amassing on Mon Sep 01, 2008 9:26 am

Whenever I use Totem movie player for audio playback (mostly mp3) I experience very poor sound quality with lots of distortion. This also affects playback with Rhythmbox and the file preview feature in Nautilus. When I play the same files in Mplayer or Reallplayer11 the sound is perfect, no distortion at all.

Anyone got any idea what is causing this? I am pretty new to Linux so please bear this in mind if you have any suggestions

Not sure if it has any bearing bu my PC sound is handled by a Sound Blaster Live card that is about 6-7 years old.

Using Mint 5 with Pulse Audio. I did try changing to ALSA but this didn't make any difference.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

What about the sound quality if you play a video, not sound only?
The only thing I can think of right now is that you reinstall Totem

Sometimes having the PCM level up to high can cause distortion. Try it at about 75- 80%

Thanks, adjusting PCM level seems to have done the trick
