VLC not displaying video for WMV, AVI, MOV, MPG file types

Postby pappo on Thu Sep 18, 2008 4:12 pm

VLC not displaying video for WMV, AVI, MOV, MPG file types. I can hear the video, but it will not display a window to see the video.

Here is what I have tried so far.

1. I used Synaptic and loaded all the codecs. I loaded Mplayer, Xine, and Totem to compare them.
2. I verified the codecs are in /usr/lib/win32
3. I tried Mplayer, Xine, and Totem and none of them work.
4. WMV file samples in Firefox play audio but no video
5. Firefox video, i.e. You Tube works just fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

SOLVED:

I removed all media players (Mplayer, Xine, Totem, VLC, etc...) and then just reinstalled Totem only.
I can now play AVI, WMV, MPEG, WAV.....everything now works.

There must have been a conflict with so many players installed.
Sometimes just going back to the basics works.
