How do I install Divx or VLC plugin for Chrome?
I'm hoping someone can clue me in. I have no idea why at least the VLC plugin isn't available in Chrome since it comes pre-installed and and I re-installed for good measure. I'd actually prefer a Divx plugin (both if possible), but at this point, anything would be nice. I have the latest version of Chrome on Linux Mint 17 (Qiana). To be clear, I'm not trying to use Chromecast. I just want a web player plugin for Chrome that streams .mkv's, .avi's, or any other non-flash, non-html5 videos. Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: How do I install Divx or VLC plugin for Chrome?
Chrome recently instigated a major upgrade their core code which included a new graphics rendering engine and new process for running plugins, as a result all the old chrome plugins no longer work. With the upgrade came a new set of plugins supplied by chrome, but, at present there are virtually no ( or even none) working plugins from 3rd parties on Linux. Hopefully this will change with time as people rewrite the plugins they supply, but, it is up to the developers of VLC to rewrite their plugin for Chrome if they wish to do so. Sorry for the bad news

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. At least I won't waste any more time thinking I must be doing something incorrectly.
