High frequency buzzing in headphones

Postby Lepredom on Sun Jun 22, 2014 3:07 pm

Hi. When I am using headphones on my laptop (Realtek audio) with Mint 17x64, I hear constant buzzing noise at very high pitch. It doesn't matter if I am playing something, or just idling. It is not very loud, but it's extremely annoying. I cannot enjoy music or movies with it, but mostly I can't bear to wear headphones on, when idling. It stops for a few seconds when a new sound starts to play - e.g. when i open an mp3, but then it's there again, like nothing happened.
I am using dualboot with windows, but in windows everything is ok.Then headphones are OK, too. Tried them on a portable player.
Thanks for any help.

No, I didn't find anything suspicious (at least to me).

I have the same problem too. And I am also using Mint 17x64. There is this background noise in, not only my headset but also, the builtin speakers on my notebook. This happens whenever I listen to any audio or watch any video. But in my case I noticed that the problem is only with VLC player. I don't have this problem when using audacity, audacious, or smplayer. So for the moment I am using audacious and smplayer for audio and video.

I am not sure why VLC is acting up. I am not an expert in these things. I do hope that someone could offer some advice here cause I really love VLC. Thanks to all the good people out there.
