New Asus Build - terrible sound [Solved]

Postby Mr_Sneakyman on Sat Jul 05, 2014 10:54 pm

Hey folks,

I've read the other posts on "no sound" .. nothing seems to be working.

I just finished building a new rig:
Asus H97i
8 gigs RAM
4670K Intel
Asus 660 GTX
2 X SSD (one Win, one Linux)
Nice build!

Problem: I'm using a headset with standard green and pink audio pins. Sound is working in Win so I know the hardward is okay. I'm getting audio out of the headset but it's quality is so bad that my ears are bleeding (garbled .. distorted .. crackeling .. etc). Never had audio problems with Linux before that weren't easily fixed .. this one has me scratching my head.

Thanks for any help.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Got it folks .. fixed.

Found it here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1321421

Scroll down .. the fix that worked for me was MicWit nearly at the bottom of the page...

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
And add the line:
options snd-hda-intel vid=8086 pid=8ca0 snoop=0
Save, exit, reboot.

Skype also is now working fine .. whew!
