Looking for a DVD Player?

Postby sarahmarienc on Fri Sep 26, 2008 9:16 am

Before I start downloading things I'll have to remove later because they don't play DVDs, does anyone know of a player that will play DVDs. My computer used to have MS Windows Media Center (its an HP Media PC-M8100N) before the Vista melt down and we used it to watch DVDs. Is there anything Linux that is comparable?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Okay, so some of my DVDs play fine on Totem Movie Player (it's the default player on Mint before you make any changes.) But some of the new ones don't play. Any idea why?

Okay nevermind, they are all working. Yayyyy! Gosh this is too easy on here. With another distro I had to use command line and then I messed something up when I was copying and pasting. On here as they say "it just works!" Wooo. Can you mark this solved or do you not have such a feature here on this board?

We'll just mark you down as one happy user, sarahmarienc.

Now have some fun with your computer. While you're at it, discover that almost all of those fancy "media center" keys on the keyboard that came with your HP Media Center PC should be functional in Mint and already mapped to the right things. You should be able to pause, stop, start, FF, rewind, mute, and play with the volume right from your keyboard using the special keys.

Its not magic, its Mint. :D

Oh I'm definitely having some fun! This is the life for me. Haha! We're going to watch a movie tonight so I'll have to try out my media center keys and see if they work :) Thanks again.
