New to Linux - Midi not working?
Hello, I'm running Mint 17, and am trying to get midi files to play. I installed Qsynth, set "MIDI Driver" to "asla_seq" and "audio driver" to "alsa", and imported this soundfont http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5783430 I set the output in Synthesia to Qsynth, but when I try to play a midi, all I get is loud static. I've also tried Rosegarden but I'm getting no sound. Any help fixing this would be much appreciated!

Re: New to Linux - Midi not working?
Welcome.
You have 2 options, play midi via "Timidity" or "VLC":
1. See my previous post: http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=154394 regarding the requirements for Timidity.
2. Install the plugin for VLC
Then you can get midi playback via VLC
