Not sure where the problem is. Tried a few things that I came across while searching with Google, but nothing that I had tried worked. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I'm running Elyssa XFCE.
Installed SMplayer, which is a frontend for Mplayer, and things works fine through that. You can read more about it here; http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/index.php?tr_lang=en I'm not at home right now, but I believe SMplayer can be found through Synaptic. Don't take my word for it though, my memory's not THAT good.
