Post a copy of your /ect/modprobe.d/alsa-base file.

Interesting. I did what the forum suggested, and nothing happened. However, I kept seeing alsa-mixer listed in forums so I loaded it. After playing with it a bit, suddenly I had sound. So I don't know if Alsa or the added line in Alsa-base or whatever worked, but something worked. Should I purge kmixer? just leave as is since I now have sound?

Kmix only controls which channel you use, and the volume level. There is no need to get rid of it. Does Kmix successfully turn your volume up and down? If so, you are good to go.

Interesting. I had no reason to use the mic until recently. My sound works fine, but testing Skype revealed that the mic does not. And arrowing over in alsamixer-gui and hitting spacebar (repeatedly) yields no response. I can use an external (maybe) but it'd be nice to get the internal working again.
