hi,
I did a fresh install of my HTPC with mint 17.1 cause I was encountering freezing problems (maybe caused by the flash player) with mint 16.
I ve got no more freezes so far with 17.1 but I lost the SPDIF passthrough.
I mainly use Kodi 14 (new XBMC) and when I switch on the passthrough, I got a very nasty high picth noise in my speakers and the AVR doesn t recognize the dts or dolby digital signal. It was fine on mint 16. I gave a try to ubuntu and it works as well but I prefer to use mint.
I tried to use it with VLC with no luck. this is why I believe the problem doesn t come from XBMC but from mint.
I installed PAVU and ticked the boxes for DTS/AC3/MPEG as well.
my soundcard is a PCI (not express) sound blaster live 5.1.
thank you for any help.
no more passthrough mint 17.1

1-install pavu from software manager and select formats supported by audio receiver under advanced
2-install kodi as shown on their download page sending to wiki page
3-select pulse audio in kodi audio system as your output device
