so far, this is the only format that doesn't work out of the box that i've seen.

any suggestions on how to view them, and two, any suggestions on how to sneak this into Bea's final version?

well, it was one that a friend sent me, so it's on my hard drive. if they're streaming, it seems to play with the mplayer plugin, but if i use mplayer to try to watch one off my hd, it doesn't work.

here's a link to one online though -- http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pict ... der-man_3/

Oh ok.. sorry I didn't get you were referring to quicktime. It works in Bea, out of the box.

To make it work in Barbara you need to remove the realplayer plugins in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins (they're called helix or something like that), and install the package mozilla-mplayer (or mplayer-mozilla.. can't remember exactly).

Speaking of .mov.....

Postby Quicksilver 689 on Wed Dec 06, 2006 3:20 pm

In line with this .mov discussion, does anyone know how to force Totem to not make the left (movie) side so tiny and the right (title) side so large?? I keep having to resize it every time I load a .mov from my HDD...I tried using mplayer for .mov's instead but it doesn't handle them very well (unless it streams them within a web browser window). The clips get choppy audio and the video flickers constantly, still working on fixing that...

try to use mplayer (install it from Synaptic) and run it from a Terminal window. It should work with mov. I never used Totem or other players because from my experience those doesn't work correctly.
