Miro repository and Mint 6

Postby Gort on Sun Feb 01, 2009 12:07 pm

Hi All

I am trying to add the Miro repository so that I get the more recent version of Miro -- I am doing this because I have run into a few bug in the version that come from the regular repositories. Anyways, I am running Mint 6, which is based on Intrepid and I am looking at the Miro site for instructions. Here is the link:

I am having some troubles. First, the images shown for synaptic show a "Third Party" tab, which I don't have. When I use the fields in my version of synaptic, I am left with a "Section" field that I, apparently, have to fill out. When I insert a guess of "main", like this:
Code: Select all
URI: http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/pculture.org/miro/linux/repositories/ubuntu
Distribution: intrepid
Section: main

I get the following error when I update.
Code: Select all
Failed to fetch http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/pculture.org/miro/linux/repositories/ubuntu/dists/intrepid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz  404 Not Found [IP: 64.50.238.52 80]

I did notice that the file "Packages.gz" is located in:
Code: Select all
http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/pculture.org/miro/linux/repositories/ubuntu/intrepid/Packages.gz

Is there a way to properly enter the data into the "Repository" section of synaptic in Mint 6?

Thanks

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

For some reason, Miro seems to have some broken or conflicting packages in the Ubuntu repos. Due to this issue, Miro needs to be installed via Synaptic from the Miro repos.

To do this, the Miro repositories must be added to your sources list.

In Terminal, key in:

Code: Select all
gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Once the sources list opens up, scroll down to the very bottom, and add:

Code: Select all
## +++ Miro +++
deb http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/pculture.org/miro/linux/repositories/ubuntu intrepid/

Save the sources list, close Terminal, open Synaptic, and reload.
Once reloaded, Search for Miro. Put a check in the box, accept the packages, and install.
