ATI Radeon Mobility x1600 solved and operational

Postby kaynemo on Fri Feb 20, 2009 5:49 pm

Hi all !

I dunno whether this is going to help anyone, but it sure helped me quite a lot. I got Felicia on an Acer Aspire 5670 Notebook with ATI Radeon Mobility x1600 video card. To get Compiz working, along with video playback etc - I had to:

1. [After a fresh install] Activate Proprietary Drivers and reboot.
2. Download and install the latest drivers from http://www.ati.com (latest release I'd installed before this post - ver.9)
3. run sudo aticonfig --initial -f
4. reboot and voila

The reason for this post (so simple seemingly) is that when done in any other order (like, let's say, activating the proprietary drivers and trying to fix the flicker, or downloading and installing the latest linux driver with the proprietary driver not active) - on my particular machine it just never quite worked. I currently get no flicker video via wlan from an intrepid ibex server from the home network.
