Problem with NoMachine and no Sound on Server

Post by tjweaver »

Hi,

I'm a brand new mint 6 user coming over from Ubuntu. I set this computer up specifically to play audio files on my home stereo system.

When I login locally audio works just fine. When I login via nomachine the audio device seems to be disabled or is thought to be in use (not sure which). The volume bar has a red x over it and i get the g-streamer message that the volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control.

My system: P4 2.4 ghz
OS - Linux Mint 6 w/ Gnome
Audio Card: Aureon 7.1 Universe (Mint identifies the card correctly)
ALSA details on the card: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index. ... le-ice1724
nomachine client: winxp

I'm running the most current version of nomachine nx (http://www.nomachine.com) for both client and server. Server is the nomachine nx free adition and not the freenx server.

I've followed this audio setup guide: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/simple-guide- ... users.html (although audio was working fine when logged on locally and still is.)

Also, if I first log onto the machine locally, stay logged in, and then log in over nomachine (both same user) then audio works fine.

Just to clarify. I am not trying to play audio from the server onto the client over ESD. I simply want to be able to play audio files on the server (that is hooked up to a home stereo) and control the audio with the client.

I've googled the heck out of this and am coming up with nothing (I must be googling the wrong terms). This setup works just fine on Ubuntu 8.04 but I'm really liking Mint and want to jump over.

Thanks for your time and help on this.

I don't think it is a sound card issue. I went ahead and installed MintXFCE 6 on a VM and then connected to it over NoMachine and did not have this sound issue. I then installed the general Mint 6 on a VM and connected to it over NoMachine and had the same problem as described above. This was all done on a different machine with onboard audio.
