How To make Arabic Subtitle work on media players

If you are using Totem (The default media player on Mint):
Just Open it, then go to
Edit --> Preferences --> General --> Encoding .. then choose Arabic (Windows-1256)
also make sure that you select a font that support Arabic.

Mplayer:
First you need to install (fribidi0) package, you can find it in the package manager.
Once its installed, open Terminal and type
gedit /home/username/.mplayer/gui.conf (replace username) with your acount name
add this line at the end of the gui.conf
sub_cp = "cp1256"
and save it

Now Arabic subtitles should be working..

Also make sure to name the subtitle files exactly as the video file name
for example:
myvideo.avi myvideo.srt
