I have a similar problem which I posted when testing the RC1.
My output is very similar to yours:

My setup is two dvd drives, a Pioneer DVD Writer 115D as master and a TSST Corp CD Writer/DVD Combo as slave.
With all other versions of Mint, PcLinux and Windows this works fine but with 7 opening a DVD with any program, M Player, Totem, VLC, Kaffeine all display the opening screen and on trying to open the DVD crash. I have found a trick to stop this and that is starting to play an audio CD in the slave drive and then pausing the playback, then opening the DVD in any of the above programmes in the master drive will work. Not very satisfactory. I have tried the suggestions on the Ubuntu forum but nothing seems to work.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will have some idea on how to sort the problem.

I have solved my problem by following the attached thread and returning the Intel driver to 2.4 the same as in Mint 6.

Good Luck.

Thank you thank you thank you! I had the identical problem, and you saved the day!Fornhamfred wrote:I have solved my problem by following the attached thread and returning the Intel driver to 2.4 the same as in Mint 6.
UPDATE: Just a caveat:
Upon rebooting, the system insisted in loading with a low resolution. I finally figured out how to resolve this. Reboot into safe mode, then select the option to correct any resolution issue automatically. Worked for me!
Re: MPlayer & VLC crashing
Well, I thought I got everything working after downgrading the video drivers. But I still can't get Linux Mint 7 to play movies from the DVD. Totem Movie Player, VLC, Gnome Mplayer: none of 'em work.
They each play a split second of the DVD's beginning, then stop and go black.
