Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Play a music cd or mp3 file, open "alsamixer" in a terminal, play with the sliders and mute/unmute channels (with the "m" key) until you get sound. If that doesn't work post the output to "lsmod".

I have the same problem; I have a gateway M-152 XL that I cleaned Vista off of with default specs...

Sound control is a little weird; I maxed out or unmuted everything on Alsamixer and the laptop speakers work fine. However whenever I connect something into the headphone jack, it all goes quiet and the headphones/speakers don't work.

This sounds like a typical laptop problem with debian based linux. I wish someone out there can fix it?
