Midi out of time

Postby Robinato on Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:41 am

HI
I managed to run some older sequenzer programms like finale via wine. Unfortunetaly the midi playback (using my Roland xv-2020) is totally out of time. Do I have to installe another sound card?

Thanks 4 help

I don't think new hardware does it
It's probably something to do with wine, but I know too little of the intricacies of midi to tell you what
midi is as you know stored bits of sound that are used to produce what we hear
And what do you mean by out of time?

Hi

in my definition midi is an interface which controls midi instruments. It controls sound banks and numbers and the velocity length and pitch of notes to play. IN my case, the notes, which were composed, sound as if somebody completely drunk would play them. It's completely irregular and out of time.

The finale home page here
Winehq here
Both with links to forums
It could possibly be that wine for some reason is out of sync with Mint
Google for midi out of sync and midi latency for solutions
This is out of my league so I don't have any simple solutions

Hi !

This is almost certainly caused by the fact that you are using an emulation layer to run the windows program which isn't getting enough CPU time.
For realtime app's like this perhaps you should seriously consider using the windows app on a native windows machine or if you prefer try
Ubuntu Studio as it has been developed with a realtime kernel and the necessary native applications for what you are trying to do.

Let us know how you get on.
