Ubuntu 8.04.3 breaks some codecs?

Postby SiKing on Wed Jul 22, 2009 9:31 am

Hi all.
I still run Elyssa - Mint 5. After the recent release of Ubuntu 8.04.3, I went and against my better judgement installed all level 3 updated. Several (but not all!) of my .wmv movie clips no longer play video, only audio. This is using the default Movie Player, which I actually prefer. Any idea how I would go about tracking down which package caused this?
TIA.

Is there a history in mintUpdate in Elyssa?
I think there is - you can use that to hunt down updates that could be harmful
In synaptic there is an option to force an older version - it's in the Package menu > Force version and you can use that revert the changes

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

I think history was introduced in Felicia http://www.linuxmint.com/blog/?p=492
I am aware of the Force version ... just which package. :?

I had no time to check and could not remember if it was Felicia or Elyssa that introduced history :)
There is no history in Synaptic and none in apt even if it may seem so if you look in the manual
Perhaps apt-get (or just apt) -u works for you - it does not for me
