Hi folks, not sure if this is the place for this. I was wondering if there is a way of saving my dvd's as AVI's on my HD?
I am keen to watch movies when I am travelling etc but don't fancy carting a dvd player and discs around, if I could put some of my movies etc on an external HD it would be so much easier when cycle touring. I have thought about download purchases but I have no broadband at home and the work connection is sooooo slooooow....
Thanks in anticipation.

You can use AcidRip which is simple and practical or DVDrip or HandBrake for example. There is also K9, but it's a KDE app so there are some KDE dependencies... It's up to you, you are the choice!

You can use FFmpeg from the command line or its front-end: WinFF. It works quite well.Multicore wrote:Any suggestions for saving and converting YouTube videos to AVI?

Re: dvd-avi conversion.
If you want to use something similar to converXtodvd try DeVeDe for linux. Lemonrip is great for ripping from dvd to avi. I don't think that it is in the repository but you can google it and download and install the Deb package.
