If you have pulseaudio installed, you may try this:

killall pulseaudio
sudo alsa force-reload
pulseaudio -D
If this does not help, you may try something else.
Could you post output of the following commands?
sudo lshw -C multimedia
aplay -l
lspci -v
sound
