I understand that this is a general question not only for mints, but for all linux in general, but I think it is still related to the multimedia/codecs topics.
I understand that youtube is flash .flv files. In windows there are several programs to capture video from How do we capture the video stream in Linux? Is there any utility/steps/tricks to do it?

Hi, for that I'm using a Firefox extension called VideoDownloader, it enables you to download the .flv, which you can then read with VLC.
I'm still looking for a .swf reader, though.

Also, I stumbled upon a site which does the job for you, just paste the URL in it. Google for "Dailysuck"... :lol:

Here is a shell script that can convert YouTube videos to DIVX (*.avi) files:

And just in the next posting there clem presents an even easier way:
