To watch and record DVB-T television I purchased a Hauppauge "WinTV MiniStick" today, which is a quite cheap and common one. I didn't really expect to get it to work under Mint this evening, but despite it's name it was nearly a breeze ...
Once more I'm truly amazed by Mint/Linux.
That's what I did to make it run:
1. download the firmware files from the (german) hauppauge web site and copy them to /lib/firmware
2. install kaffeine (via software manager)
The TV stick worked and kaffeine found all channels but could not stream them with error "Cannot find demultiplexer plugin for the given media data". A short investigation led me to the following solution:
3. install libxine1-ffmpeg (terminal: sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg)
This was easy, even for a Mint noob like me
Did I tell you yet that I love Mint?
All the best to you and a Happy New Year!
