Random high pitched static

Post by crusylicious »

I am running Linux Mint 9. Not using mint4win. Everything was working great for a day or two and then suddenly while listening to music, I closed firefox and then my music got a high pitched static sound. Now all of my sound comes with the static. I of course tried rebooting and it didn't make a difference. When I set my speakers to stereo it is fine, but they are 5.1 speakers so I don't want to stick with stereo.

Also, it is happening on my onboard sound, my creative soundblaster, my 5.1 speakers, and my 5.1 headset.

Hi,

plz run this directly after boot before opening a sound application:

Code: Select all

sudo alsa-utils reset
I don't know if alsa-utils are preinstalled, if not, you get it by typing :

Code: Select all

apt update && apt-install alsa-utils
If it's not solving your problem (for my soundblaster that worked), paste "aplay -l" plz und tell us which chip is rendering the music.

So far, still no luck. I have tried both devices and same results, but at the moment my onboard sound is what is enabled.
