help playing x264 encodec MKV format files

sigh... these are 1280x720 resolution... pretty big...

it seems X264 is the new XviD as it could make the same quality but less space, or more quality of equal space...

problem is - i cant play it.

I try using VLC to play it (as its the only option ATM that works with MKV files.. and even that fails...)

HELP!? haha... sigh... if all fail i'll go into windows to watch it... -.-

Have you made sure Mplayer is configured? I fell foul of that today?
"For some reason Mplayer came up without audio or video configured, on my box after installing KDE,
Right click on screen, select configure, select video
output, and audio output (x11 and alsa in my case)
Plays BBC, C4 News, and everywhere I have tried. "

Not sure about your format but plays everything I have tried
