Codec licensing fees

Postby KevinGabbert on Mon Dec 03, 2007 11:31 am

Hey,

The subject of "distributing codecs" seems to come up whenever I read about Linux distributions.

Since Mint comes with the codecs already installed, how do you guys address that issue? Is that where some of the donations go that we send?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

No not a cent
This is why we have a light version for countries where software patents are valid

We're also part of the OIN and protected as such from patents owned by Philips, Novell, Sony, RedHat, IBM..etc... the only real threat as always is Microsoft but I doubt they would ever use their patents, and if they did it would only have effects in the US and Japan.
