[solved] 64 bit VLC in LMDE won't play AVI files

Postby ausmuso on Fri Jun 10, 2011 10:57 pm

I have LMDE running on two machines. One runs the 64 bit, the other the 32 bit edition.
In the 64 bit version, when I try to open an AVI file with the VLC player I get sound but no picture, also the error message:
No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "mp4v". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.

I have no such problem with VLC in the 32 bit edition. Has anyone else run into this problem, and is there a known fix?

(Edit at 13/06/11) Oops, Problem solved! I had simply scored a broken package. I Found that an update for the vlc packages was available, got and installed them and bingo . . . vlc worked perfectly.
With Linux from 1997 (Slackware, Caldera, Red Hat, Mandrake, (Open)SuSE, Poppy, Ubuntu, CentOS) currently Mint LMDE & 13 Cinnamon w. LXDE desktops
