Hi all
I recently installed Linux Mint 64bit on my Dell Latitude E6410 Laptop
and one of my home desktops, which is a custom built with a Core 2 DUO
Intel CPU.
Flash does not work in either. Just a black screen. Doesn't matter if it
is youtube, or other. I have tried several sites.
I am not new to Flash, nor browsers, nor computers. I have been an IT
professional for over 18 years now. I have fixed things like this many times
until now. Nothing I have tried works. I have read several forums including
this one, and so far not finding the trick. I even installed flash-aid in FF
and ran the script. Still a black screen for flash.
The following is the output for flash in FF for about:plugins -->
Shockwave Flash
File: libflashplayer.so
Version:
Shockwave Flash 10.3 d162
MIME Type Description Suffixes
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl
And for Opera which is my main browser -->
Description: Shockwave Flash 10.3 d162
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf,swt
I could go back to the 32bit version to try, but why? I have used the 64bit for
some time now in previous versions fine. What I don't know is how to capture
any debug info that might point to why it is not working. That info would be
useful if anyone knows.
Any ideas?
Regards,
/Brett

Re: Flash not working in 11.04
I posted some info on using the Firefox extension Flash Aid, which has always worked for me... http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=76403
Re: Flash not working in 11.04
Thanks TBA, but as I said I already tried flash-aid. Didn't make a difference.
However, today I have had some partial success. And the only difference was a reboot!
I would expect that on Windows, but not Linux. Anyway, the partial success is, that
now flash is working in Opera, which is my browser of choice anyway, so I am happy
at the moment. However still no go in FF, which is where I ran flash-aid. So, not sure
what is up with that.

Re: Flash not working in 11.04
dater, if you have an account on the Ubuntu forums there is a user named lovinglinux who created Flash Aid. He also has threads on optimizing Firefox, flash, etc. He's a developer of extensions for firefox and is the most knowledgeable person I know to deal with your situation. If you post a thread on their forum, because Mint 11 and Ubuntu 11.04 are "essentially" the same sub-system, he is a great guy and will likely work you through the issue to get it fixed.

Thanks TBABill
Yes, I have been on Ubuntuforums for years now. I'll try there too, and check with lovinglinux if I can't figure it out.
That handle rings a bell now that you mention it. Probably seen him on there before I suppose.
