DVD burning...file too large!

I downloaded a movie from archive.org (divx, 1.6 gig size). I used DEVEDE to to convert it into an ISO ready to burn to a DVD, but the file size is a whopping 6.3 gig, which of course won't fit onto a 4.7 blank DVD. All of the shrinking apps I have, such as Dvd95 and K9copy seem to require the source file to already be on the DVD, so they aren't much help. Is there another way to do this?

Any video encoding app will allow you to re-encode a new video file at a smaller size. But this will require a certain ammount of knowhow about video codecs the like.

Don't know if it'll help, but for Windows you can get Nero versions with the Recode option
which will let you modify the files like taking out unwanted languages, previews, menus, etc.
to make the file smaller. Just an idea.

Burn it to a dual layer DVD.

burn it to a 8.5 gb dvd-r they are fairly cheap about $12.00 dollars for 3 and also the more you compress the video files the more quality you lose
