Sound in Ubuntu 7.10 but not in Mint 4, why?

In the same computer some of the linux's have sound and some not. The motherboard is ASUS M2V-MX SE, Audio: Realtek ALC662-GR Azalia 6 channel audio CODEC.

In all of the linux's Alsa v.1.0.14 emulation code except in sidux .15, and HDA VIA VT82xx (alsamixer)

Linux ........... kernel

Frugalware .. 2.6.22-fw6 SMP
Mandriva ..... 2.6.22.9-laptop-lmdv :?:
Mint 4 GG .... 2.6.22-14 generic :?:
sidux ........... 2.6.23.14-slh-smp
Ubuntu GG .. 2.6.22-14 SMP

Why no sound in Mint when Ubuntu has sound? For ex. Amaroc can not play a cd where there are only waw-files.

I reinstalled linux-sound-base, alsa-utils, alsa-base, and some mint-specific packages but that did not help.

Thank you! That explains the problem. Unfortunately I just had to change my hard disk and I lost Linux Mint I had installed. Now I occasionally have Mandriva 2008 - and no sound even here! I came back to the problem later :)
