Oh sure, just use the bloody PPA when you cant follow the simple steps. Follow the PPA made by someone you cannot trust, then get your computer messed up when they either packed a "surprise" virus along with the package, or a malicious command as simple as "rm -rf /" with it. Woops! There goes all your valuable data down the drain!
Think about it--to install any .deb file you need superuser status, and there isn't anything preventing a malicious individual to edit a few files and add "rm -rf /" at the end of it and make you install that package. When you actually install Java from the official site, the chances of getting your pc infected or broke is pretty slim.
I've made the script much better, yesterday actually, I posted up the new and improved one. The good thing about using BASH scripts is that you can actually tell what is going on in the background; if you have a minimal understanding of BASH, you will get what that script is doing.
