[SOLVED]No sound in VLC!

hello all,
visual is ok, subtitles ok, but is all muted! i tried avi, mp4, wmv, even mp3 doesn't give sound!
other players (banshee, gnome Mplayer) are working ok.
please be gentle, am a n00b working on mint 12, gnome classic without effects.
