Hi all. Have been trying linux for many years but still a newbie bc always had to use mainly that other OS for professional reasons.
Got a SSD recently and decided to divide it and put 3 distros on it: mint12(kde-version), fedora16(gnome3) and ubuntu11.10(unity), all 64bit. Everything went well and i have a perfect 5-OS multiboot system. Things i had/wanted to change i would do a search and find, but i'm having a issue with mint, i think it's simple but still couldn't figure out: there's no sound.
Since mint uses ubuntu as a base i think it could be useful to compare some files/configurations since in ubu the sound is ok,
but i need directions. One thing that happened was showing that message when accessing the multimedia settings:
""Removed sound devices:
kde detected that 1 or more devices were removed:
do you want to forget about them?
-capture HDA intel PCH
-ALC889 analog (default audio device)""
I decide to pick "NO" at first but later saw a message in a forum recommending "YES" as it could be a redundance.
After that the message is not showing but nothing has changed, still no sound..
Don't know what could have caused this; the only software i added was chrome and gnuchess, no multimedia software,
i didn't remove anything and had no crashes.
Already checked alsamixer and volume controls, and that's not it.
I have no sound at all, my system is a desktop, MB-gigabyte Z68P-DS3, onboard Realtek ALC889
As i said, my linux knowledge is limited, so it could be something very basic that i'm missing.
So that's it, any help is welcome.
