sound problem ac97 no sound cards listed on aplay -l

hello,
i'm a newbie at linux mint and i have just installed linux mint....
the problem is that i never got sound working...
there are no any sound cards listed while using aplay -l
also, there is no any sound device listed at hardware tab in sound settings
I'm in a great problem,

Please run inxi -A in terminal and post the output here - does it show any sound card?

If you use Mint 12 you could try upgrading the kernel from Synaptic Package Manager, Status > Installed (upgradeable) then mark linux-headers (twice) and linux-image for upgrading by right-clicking them, and click Apply at the top.
